Submissions

We have received a number of inquiries about submission of articles to The Nigerian Lawyer. Although this Site is called ‘The Nigerian Lawyer’ and we focus mostly on law related issues in the country, we endeavour to achieve a global outlook in presentation and content. Therefore any article would have to take that into consideration.

We write under 3 broad categories.

We welcome submissions subject to a few guidelines below.

Guidelines

  1. Originality: The article you submit must be an original article, written by you and the copyright must belong to you.
  2. Research: Your article should be well researched and written from a position of authority. Know your subject matter.
  3. References: Where these are included, the source should also be in the body of the article usually in parenthesis.
  4. No Sales Pitches: The article should not contain any sales pitches or self promotion.
  5. Proof: Proof your article for spelling and punctuation errors, tired language or general/weak statements.
  6. Lead Paragraph: Get to the point in the lead paragraph and proceed from there.
  7. Structure: Use 50 – 75 word paragraphs, bold subheadings and bulleted lists for easy reading on screen.
  8. Pictures: Attach a clear and appropriate colour photo, properly credited and captioned.
  9. Word Count: This should be between 400 – 600 words.
  10. Bio: Attach a brief 1 – 2 paragraph biography of yourself including a clear photo.
